Ready to see where your ambition will lead you?” Job description We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our expanding team at DM Longtown. We play a crucial role for defence in managing the storage and distribution of a variety of weapons, ordnance, munitions, and explosives used by the UK Armed Forces as they defend national interests worldwide. This position will provide Deputy Head of Establishment capability and once authorised you will be expected to undertake this role in the absence of the Head of Establishment. As a member of the Site Management team, you will bring fresh thinking and new ideas to support continuous improvement. It is also key to this role that you have a strong understanding of risk management and business resilience with relevant experience of financial and budgetary management. You will have vast experience of the storage and movement of hazardous and dangerous materials and will be entrusted to undertake all tasks across Logistics, Accounts and Planning in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. You will be responsible for managing and controlling approvals for storage, handling and processing of Munitions and Weapons by using a variety of logistic information systems including Ministry of Defence and Military specific systems. You will be required to visit other sites around the UK and occasionally overseas. A key part of this role will be undertaking on-call during silent hours as the Duty Office in Charge and weekend and overnight on-site Duty Control Officer responsibility in support of Major Accident Control Regulations, up to a maximum of 4 occurrences per month, for which you will be granted overtime pay or given time off in lieu. Please be aware that this role will require you to be on site full time and this is a rural location with no public transport. Responsibilities Accountable for the safety and quality of all tasks undertaken by your staff, leading your teams and ensuring they re suitably competent, trained, and equipped, and performing in accordance with procedure. Your teams will include Equipment Care, Vehicle Fleet, Fuel Installations, Engineering Workshops, and Unit Stores. Managing, controlling and executing all warehousing, processing and handling tasks associated with explosive and non-explosive storage, whilst ensuring that all applicable regulations, safety and security standards within Defence regulations are maintained and complied with. Monitoring documentation, stock receipts and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relating to the Receiving, Storing, Maintaining, and Issuing (RSMI) and accounting of items, ensuring site targets are met. Ensuring that the Depot Operations area meets all statutory and mandatory MOD requirements in regard to: explosive safety, occupational health, safety, environment; quality; fire; facilities management; business resilience; and finance. Ensuring any risks generated by activity within the Depot Operations area is documented and are As Low As Reasonably Practical (ALARP). You ll advocate and nurture a strong, positive Safety culture across the site. Ensuring facilities and staff are compliant with current legislation and regulations and ensuring faults are reported and resolved in a timely manner. You may be required to be on-call for specific, pre-agreed times outside of your usual working hours. You may be required to work on-site at nights and weekends, up to a maximum of 4 occurrences per month, for which you ll be granted overtime pay or time off in lieu. What you will be assessed against To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria: Extensive knowledge and experience of safely managing the on-site storage, processing, handling and movement of explosives and other high-consequence dangerous goods Significant knowledge and experience of managing multiple explosive and non-explosive warehouse or processing facilities, staff and resources, adhering to quality controls, standards and policy Experience managing a large team of staff, including managing and re-prioritising workloads to meet changing requirements or deadlines within budget Experience of identifying and implementing Change and Continuous Improvement Experience conducting audits to meet specific quality standards Excellent communications skills, comfortable working with colleagues at all levels In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview: Making evidence-based decisions Expert Distribution & Warehousing Expert Changing and Improving Leadership
