Operations Manager We are currently recruiting an experienced Operations Manager to join a reputable, family run SME based in Manchester. This is a brand-new role working in conjunction with the General Manager, Logistics Manager & Purchasing department, to proactively drive for rationalisation and optimisation of the supply base, products and services with due account of relevant risk factors. The Operations Manager is the co-ordinator of the Warehouse and Production Department and will oversee the full cycle of goods received, raw material supply, production, product storage, replenishment and rotation, timely order picking and vehicle loading. They will be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships, providing support to the Management team, internal customers and managing staffing levels across the department. They will undertake a wide range of warehousing and production activities, ensure staff wellbeing and morale in line with the Company ethos and have first line responsibility for the management and development of staff, work practices and premises to ensure the efficient and effective running of the business priorities in this area and beyond. Responsibilities: Effective communication and liaison with all members of the warehouse, production and wider teams to ensure that Customer deliveries are OTIF and objectives are met. Raise the profile of the Warehouse and production Department and promote the benefits of effective and efficient best practice by identifying innovative alternatives to contribute towards the overall strategic aim of improving service and reducing cost. Maintain levels of staff to achieve warehouse and production objectives, managing holidays and staff retention/vacancy fulfilment. Manage performance issues within the warehouse and production facilities. To prepare delivery vehicles in a safe, efficient and timely manner to ensure mistakes are eliminated and that appropriate timescales for completion of vehicle loading are met. Ensuring that processes are followed, ensuring deadlines and outcomes are met and monitored, offering advice, support and guidance as required. Provide support and advice to all members of the Warehousing and production team Influence key decision makers to accept change where appropriate. Ensure safe Forklift truck operations and ensure all users are legally trained and certified. Responsible for Health and safety Responsible for the receipt, checking, security and safe & correct storage of goods from suppliers whilst liaising all details with the procurement team. Responsible for the correct storage of goods, textiles and products ensuring the safe and efficient picking of received orders and replenishment Responsible for the efficient, safe and timely picking and loading of ordered products on to the correct vehicle/route in the correct order of delivery. Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by the General Manager. Work with the General Manager and other members of the team to identify potential areas of cost reduction and/or improved efficiencies. Ensure all pieces of equipment used in the Production and Warehousing function are fit for purpose Work to ensure costs are in line with expectations, meeting the needs of the delivery plan and any cost improvement incentives. Deliver any agreed and targeted financial savings, efficiencies and added value initiatives. Requirements: Previous experience in an operations manager role. An understanding and, preferably a recognised qualification in Health and Safety law and its application would be highly desirable. The post-holder must have a proven track record in production planning, warehousing and people management. Knowledge and the application of LEAN principles is desirable to ensure continuous improvement, also in line with our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation, and innovation in practice is welcomed.
