Howdens Joinery are looking for an experienced MHE Fleet Engineering Manager to join the business to provide technical support to the Supply Operation teams, from Manufacturing through to Logistics on all aspects of MHE, ensuring legal compliance and best value. Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, as MHE Fleet Engineering Manager, and based at either our East Yorkshire site in Howden, or our Northamptonshire site in Raunds, you will use your technical specialist expertise and ability to deliver on-going technical and strategic operational improvements. You will be working with an annual spend of over £3m on a wide range of MHE across four main sites to deliver substantial added value to Howdens Supply Division by applying focused commercial thinking to the utilisation of MHE throughout the Division. As a specialist in your field, and confident communicator you will interact with internal and external bodies on technical matters relating to the MHE fleet. On-going knowledge gathering is essential to ensure Howdens is keeping up-to-date and compliant with latest changes in legislation. Building strong, collaborative relationships with operators and suppliers is key to the success of this role as is the ability to understand technical elements of the fleet and the ability to communicate at all levels from shop-floor to senior level. What you will be doing as MHE Fleet Engineering Manager: Health and Safety compliance – Work closely with supplier Site Engineers and Operations teams to ensure statutory inspections are conducted in a timely manner and all outputs are analysed for learnings (Insurance inspections). – Ensure compliance with LOLER and PUWER regulations via supplier websites including service schedules, ensuring agreed inspection interval frequency and the correct documentation and certification for all MHE all equipment- all sites. – Work closely with the SHE team in incident investigation and develop a standard safety specification for all MHE equipment. Technical expertise – Keep up to date with all aspects of MHE legislation, for example BITA and providing the business with relevant technical advice. – Conduct regular quarterly operational reviews with key stakeholders (including Manufacturing in Runcorn & Howden and Warehousing at all 4 sites), to ensure MHE resources are aligned to the changing needs of the business and work with the operation teams to help specify equipment as close to standard MHE as possible so avoiding the purchase of potentially more expensive be-spoke equipment. – Provide technical support to In-direct Procurement Department during MHE fleet renewal & replacements, considering an ever-changing mix of fleet and operations. – Supply operations with period KPI reports, savings, added value, service trackers, incident reporting to drive savings across the business. – Lead projects to explore market opportunities to enhance or reduce the equipment requirements. – Through collaboration and problem-solving work with operations/CI teams to organise new demonstrator equipment. – Monitor and update for the wider business the KPI /STR fleet ensuring we are charged in line with the SLA and only for the agreed term. – Support the operational teams to ensure all short-term hire equipment is in place for trading peaks this includes ancillary equipment such as attachments and batteries. – Work with our operations team to help specify equipment as close to stand MHE as possible so avoiding be-spoke equipment. – Ensure all MHE specification is signed off correctly and new kit delivered to sites is checked against this specification. – Using relationship and influencing skills to assist operations to manage MHE contractors, workshops, and suppliers to agree SLA s and best value. – Champion the use of MHE fleet management tool within our supplier s specifications (I-sight & Fleet focus). – Ensure value for money via invoice matching to damage reports/defects and analysis of spend by supplier to identify trends and opportunities. – Monitor with all suppliers the downtime on all equipment and ensure any loss of use agreements are applied and relevant credits and issued to Howden Joinery in a timely manner- feed-back the downtime data to the operational teams to help ensure that they always maximise the MHE resources. – Provide technical advice to operations teams on ways to control and reduce supplier/contractor spend in areas of damage, tyre, and fork wear etc. – Work closely with the L&D team to ensure all new equipment is recorded and the required training is provided to all operators prior to the equipment being introduced into the operations. What we are looking for: – Recognised MHE technical qualifications. – Proven fleet management experience with strong track record in a high-volume multi-site commercial environment where safety is critical. – Proven experience of managing MHE over multiple sites and positively influencing MHE effectiveness, utilisation, minimising damage reduction and the control of maintenance costs. – Knowledge of KPI and SLA management and supplier contractual terms. – Proven experience of working with internal and external stakeholders and understanding their requirements. – Full clean driving licence.
